Can someone tell me when... Coalporters, 100 ton open hoppers, and 90 ton open hoppers were in service? Piggy backs ( small and large trailers ) and Intermodals like double stacks were in service? Auto racks ( open and closed ) were in service? Thanks, Loco1999
Interesting questions. From vague memory, I recall the 100 wood chip cars, (not quite a hopper?), came into use late 1960's. 1968 or so. So perhaps also similar capacity hoppers were in a close time frame? Piggyback, I'm not sure how to answer. Small trailers? Meaning the older stuff going back 1960's, 1950's, etc? I believe the concept actually started during the 1930's. One of the first railroads to try this during that decade, was the Chicago Great Western RY. Real growth was post-WWII. Boxcab E50
