Has anyone got any brilliant ideas on how to camouflage the slider-switch on a Kato turnout? Also, if someone has some ideas that might be specific to a yard and others that would be for more general use on a main line or siding or spur, that would be great. I just don't want all my turnouts to be camouflaged the same way... because that's almost more obvious than if I had just left them.

    Thanks in advance!

On one of the other forums a modeler made a stack of ties with a cutout in the bottom one that allowed it to sit on top of the slide switch. You then pushed the stack of ties back and forth. The ties looked like they were there for track repair. As you said it would look funny to have the same stacks at every turnout.

I've designed a 3D printer enclosure that lets you put a SPDT slide switch into the surface of the layout and place different camouflage objects on top of it to hide it. You push the objects back and forth to throw the turnout and the polarity of the frog at the same time....

Since the slide on your turnouts moves parallel with the track I don't see an easy way to use them or something like them unless there was also a bell-crank involved and then you would have one more thing to camouflage :(.

Hey Sumner, thanks for weighing in!

Ok, I can see how I might be able to incorporate ideas like that, between ties and shrubs and other random detritus you may find along the rails.

I’m also looking at images of roads to see what kinds of structures are frequently found rail side.

This is a satellite pic of Glenwood Cyn. What are these buildings I see peppered along the route and what kind of work gets performed there?
