I was looking around at some pictures and I saw C&O 4-8-4 #614 resting on a siding with it's tender and auxillary. I looked closer at others and the engine had been separated from the tenders, the siderods removed, boiler fittings missing, and even the number plates were missing. What get's me confused is that the number plates are missing, so kinda of points to scrapping? I sure hope not.
I sure have not heard anything about a possible sale. Did they by chance have an official web site? Who was the last owner? Ross Rowland? I would be surprised that any such activities for such a notable loco might go unknown. Boxcab E50
it also had "NHRR" on it. After much research, I found pictured of the 1996 rebuild project and they did literally stripped the engine all the way down to the inner cown sheet of the boiler, and replace most of every crown Flue and bolt in the boiler, and re-assembled it piece by piece. It maybe/was being overhauled (This picture was in Pennsylvania, last fall). And I would also assume, it had to be towed by CSX or whoever to it's location as dead-in-tow, and required reporting marks, there for explaining the "NHRR"?
Pat- "NHRR" is the New Hope and Ivyland Railroad. Is this where the photo was taken? I don't know much about NHRR operation. Thought they were more tourist oriented. Maybe they have shop facilities capable of doing certain repairs to the 614? Boxcab E50
[{( Credit to Railroad Fallen Flags Photos, http://www.rr-fallenflags.org )}] Photos were taken at Port Clinton, Pennsylvania on the Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern. I am guessing they are doing the repairs, as they have like 3 Steamers.
Hey guys, not to worry. The NHRR was put on there for a ferry move from Port Clinton to the Reading, Blue Mountain and Northern shops, not sure why. The engine was once stored at New Hope. The number plates and the rest of the "jewelry" was removed to prevent theft. It was moved some time ago but has not been sold. Ross still owns her. There was a lot of traffic about this on some other forums months ago.
I would like to see C&O 614 steam down the rails once again! I seen it in videos but never in real life.. Would be nice too one time!
