I suspect this photo was taken in Fort Worth, but don't really know for sure. Terry Kirkland was from Grapevine, TEXAS. This is one of his earlier photos from the mid 1960s.
One of my absolute favorite diesel locos. The stainless, the fluting, the slant nose; classy! Oh, yeah, I have no idea where that photo was taken...
E-5's Not sure where the photo was taken either but it could be Dallas. The E-5's were assigned to the FW&D. I think there is a set in Golden Colorado in the rail museum.
Are those coupler doors original? Or have they been replaced? For some reason, my memory is saying the as-delivered were different in appearance? Boxcab E50
Here is another Terry Kirkland photo of the TEXAS Zephyr, likely from the later 1960s. Anyone know this location or what kind of B unit is trailing?
There is only one E5 still in existance, and it resides at the Illinois Railway Museum. It is still operational and looks great. It is unfortunate that more didn't survive.
The CB&Q, FWD, C&S owned no E-7, E-8, or E-9 (B) units. They did own E-5 B-units. It looks like an E-8/9 A-unit trailing the E-5. In the color photo the double headed signal looks to be the style of a Rock Island signal. The double headed tri-lite with the single hood was a Rock Island standard. Perhaps the photo is in Texas somewhere. AFN
The CB&Q did not own any Bs so it is one of the C&S or FD&D E8s Looking at the above post, this is in Texas and if it is on the RI then it would be between Houston and Dallas on the B&RI
The Q only had E5 B units. So if it is a B it is an E5. There were some of the earlier power cars that had B units but they do not look like true E units.
