Good choice Paul. Matt is using them and the difference between UK and US ties and spacing is very pronounced. Peco 83 is good trackage and what I would use for a new build American layout.

In the thumbnails, what is that round roofed car, behind your orange diesel?

Ken, it is a Taems. A sort of gondola like the adjacent one, but with side doors and a swiveling roof. It can be used like a normal boxcar, or the roof can be swung aside and heavy loads craned in the top. Saw this in progress once on our travels in south east Slovenia a few years ago.

I am surprised such a design has not been tried with more vigor, here in North America. There have been some attempts, but they did not work well. Leaky, they'd dribble out grain loads, or suffer from wet contents.

Don't think these are used for grain, that is carried in covered hoppers as in US. The load I saw being lowered into the car looked like a diesel power unit or similar - perhaps a generator unit. Any heavy load or one which could not fit through the door could be loaded in this way. The car could not be run without the roof locked in place, as it would be out of gauge.

Those cars I am thinking of, over here, they were attempts at a combination box car and grain "hopper" type car.

Looks like quite an accumulation! Are those all yours, Alan? Or did Matt bring some?

The Anderslej Slovenian layout is no more!

As we are planning to move back to England this year, the layout has been carefully dismantled to enable trackage, etc. to be reused. I will be building a small American HO switching layout which will also be available to attach to my son's (stickymonk) South Lewistown for through running.

Some locomotives and freightcars are already being acquired in readiness for the new Andersley Western Railroad (the third incarnation of this - one previous one in HO another in N).

Details on the revamped website http://www.andersley.co.uk

Sorry to see it go. A shame, but I guess it could also be another step forward. Waiting to see what happens. Good luck !!!!!
