related to my RPP post. Another project I have is an old Atlas/Roco SD35 locomotive. My #1 problem with this loco is the Fuel tank/Trucks.

The trucks are too big and the fuel tank is too small and the wrong shape.

I purchased a modern Atlas SD35 Fuel tank. so I have that. I have a set of Athearn SD9 trucks which are closer to correct.

So, now, what to do. I see the following options.

1: find a tool to mill off the entire original fuel tank. cut off the truck mounts, because they don't sit right for the Athearn trucks. raise and mount.

2: Take an athearn frame. SD9 frame seems to be the same size. Mill off the tank and the frame sides to fit the shell, but the trucks would sit correctly.

3: Custom build a frame from brass or plastic.

#3 actually seems to be the easiest given that I don't have a tool remotely appropriate to mill a frame to the extent required.
But I've got no experience. Anyone have experience? Pointers? Links to articles?
