Anybody got any good sites to research boxcar roster info?? I'm looking for production rosters for boxcars from FMC, ACF and Thrall. There are places to research locos but what about boxcars?

Any help is greatly appreciated. :D

Take a look at David Casdorph's site. While not box car specific there is a lot of freight car info depending on the time frame you're researching. Freight Cars List may provide some help as well.

    Hey John,

Im not sure what your era is, but if your modeling the steam era, even up to the late 60's, the Steam Era Freight Cars site is really handy. I dont have a link on me since i'm at work...a google search might point you in the right direction.

Well I just now realized that FMC, Thrall and ACF cars are probably all newer cars than what is on the site I suggested above.

Actually I believe ACF has been around in one form or another since the 1800s. :D

I'm not researching a modeling project. Need roster info for several railroads modern boxcar fleets. Mainly histories and number series. I think I got what car types I need. Havn't had any luck at any of the corporate sites. So far the above links have nothing I need either.

Thanks so far though! Might find something into the 60's. :D

The NMRA has a 2nd Printing of their "The Postwar Freight Car Fleet" by Larry woo woo woo & Ted Culotta. $49(NMRA)-$64(non members) + shipping/tax. 350+ B&W photos of freight cars from 1898-1947. Historical design texts, with separate chapters for different car types. A good review is in July's RMC. The book appears to be a good addition to their 1943-1953 ORER's.
