Hello Everyone I am going with BNSF road name SD70MAC's for my layout that I am buying supplies for. My question is what did BNSF use for yard switchers. I will be doing a small yard and tho the track layout is fictional I still want to keep it within what BNSF used for yard switchers. Thx for all your suggestions and help so far. TRAINBOARD IS THE BEST !!!!!!!!!!!
Errr... do you mean what are they still using? I see a couple of BNSF yard switchers nearly every day at Willbridge. The ones I see most often are these: BNSF 3449 BNSF 3547 BNSF 3611
There are a lot of gensets switching in Texas now, but none in N. The ATlas MP15 in BN or BNSF would be good. Many places also use GP38 and GP38-2 these days and Atlas has these in all the required paint schemes, BN, BNSF, and ATSF, some with patch jobs. Trainman GP15 also a good bet.
I have seen a wide variety of four-axle EMDs in both Sherman and Muskogee. Even though there are beaucoup 3GS21B Gensets in the Metroplex, I've also spotted GP35s, GP39V and GP39E rebuilds, GP38-2s, and the rare GP50, in various colors (BN green, Santa Fe blue & yellow, BNSF H1, H2 and H3 colors, and BNSF "patch jobs") in the same areas. And for variety, a GP28 rebuild or two can be seen as well. Can't remember what Tulsa's Cherokee Yard has right now, but the last time I was up there, they had a slew of four-axle power.
Sounds like a roster of the deadline in Orillia Yard, in Kent, WA Here's the 3449 and 3611 in August 2009. biggrin:
Here is a photo of a BNSF switcher / slug (?) I took a few years ago. Note the plated over side windows. Sorry for the small pic, but the loco was so far away, my camera wouldn't zoom any closer.
