I have recieved a set of BNSF orders for Amtrak # 701 to Sacramento, but was curious to see that Amtrak trains (both East and Westbound) must obide by a20 mph speed restriction. Why is this speed restriction in effect

Well not working that territory or having a set of the orders you do, it's pretty hard to say something about a speed restriction. We get 20 and 10mph speed restrictions all the time, I guess you have to be more specific is what I'm saying.

What I do not understand is that the dispatcher issued a bulletin that reduces speed to 20 mph over Tulare Street crossing in Fresno. It goes on to say that there is traffic congestion due to highway construction. What I do not understand is that why Amtrak and BNSF trains must obide by the 20 speed restriction as perscribed by the bulletin Can you try to explain why? It also says that the restriction is for the head end only Thanks Brad

Well again I must say first I don't work this territory, I have never been over it. But by what you say It sounds like there is some kind of construction going on around or very near the rail crossing and so they are reducing the speed to prevent any workers or morons from getting hit by fast approaching trains. The part about head end restriction only means that as soon as the engines pass they can pick the speed back up to max speed which tells you that the speed restriction is not on acct. of track problems.

don't know if its the same track bulletin as you're talking about, mine's #58646 dated march 22, 2002. It states restriction to 20 MPH over Tulare st MP 998.1 account traffic congestion due to highway construction. Found this on train #701 March 26th on my way to Sacramento from Bakersfield. There was a good deal of trackwork along the entire route especially in the Stockton area & after leaving the valley sub towards lodi & Sacramento.
