OK ... so everyday I get to see a hodge-podge collection of motor power on the BNSF main line through Seattle.

    My question is this:

Currently I am seeing BNSF Heritage I and II as well as the new BNSF corporate scheme. I also see a lot of Santa Fe motors ... some silver/red, some blue/yellow. Some of these still say Santa Fe ... but many have had their titles replaced with BNSF (in Santa Fe font) in the appropriate color for the engine.

Why is it though, that the non-repainted BN engines only have BNSF painted in little letters under the cab windows ... and not in giant normal-sized lettering along the body like the Santa Fe engines do?

    anyone know?

    Thanks

At one time BNSF was going to keep the red silver war bonnets or Super Fleet scheme and colors with red BNSF lettering. In 1996 some SD70's were ordered this way for both the Santa Fe scheme and the BN Grinstine green and cream scheme. The standard cab were just patched until the RR settled on the H1 scheme in 1996. The H2 replaced both wide cab schemes menthoned above after 1997.
