Did the AC units ever run with any other units on trains?

Yes, they do, last week they were on a coal train with a GP40M-2. Currently they are on am intermodal from Chicago's Cicero to Tacoma: S-CHCTAC, with other units BNSF 4566, 769, 755.

Sure do! I've bagged them down on the Columbia River a few times in mixed consists. A friend of mine is a Terminal Trainmaster at Everett WA Delta yard and always gets irked when he sees them doing this. The problem is that when you run an AC unit with with a DC unit you either cook the DC unit's motors trying to keep up with the AC or else you waste the half million dollars for the the AC motors. Thats why they try not to run mixed consists with the ACs on the point because it's too easy to forget that the trailing units don't have the same capabilities
