Got a call first thing yesterday (Monday May 29th) morning.... "Hey, that A-B-B-B-A set is parked about 2 miles from you this morning" With that, I present this... Not F's, but DASH8-40BW GP60B GP60B GP60B DASH8-40BW. I'll live.. Kel
WOW!!!! What a catch......imagine the odds. Any reason why 3 GP60B's where lumped together after so many years?
Nope, they ran up the valley this way, then back. I shot alot of photos at ground level, since they were just there.. Kel
Every once in awhile we're up to our....shorts in them. One thing I've learned after living in Bakersfield this long is how much interesting stuff rolls by. Kel
I've seen a B-unit or two here in Gallup, but all the other 4-axle units are either used for switching or for locals. A GP39-2 and GP60M are the units for the yard switcher, while a gaggle of B40-8s power locals in & out of Gallup. And to think.........last time I saw an ABBBA lashup was in Oelwein, Iowa, in the summer of 1968 on the CGW.............
Real nice catch! I caught a GP60M still in war bonnet colors Saturday and still see a GP60B every once in a while on the C&I. I remember reading Trains when Santa Fe bought those, I thought it was the coolest thing.
I've always found hood-unit boosters more interesting than carbody boosters, and I don't think it's just because there were less of them. Something else I find interesting is the fact that all three of the B-units are in H1 paint. Not that that should be surprising. According to http://www.qstation.org/Repaint-Patch/0001.html there are no GP60Bs left in Santa Fe paint; they were all repainted in 2002. It seems that in those days, BNSF would repaint anything.
Thanks Kel. Nice shots of the inbetweenies. I've seen these on the Seligman sub, but last weekend watched probably 50 trains and saw not one.
Was up there last weekend, couldn't find it on my map, didn't really spend any time at all in Flag. Gives me a good excuse to go again. Good news is that the signal bridge at Cosnino is still standing and working! :teeth: Don't know for how long, they still have stuff staged there but doesn't look like much going on.
That should be a hint... Shoot this signal as much as you can....:shade: Looking forward to pics! I had a chance a couple times to visit a few areas in the D&RGW Tunnel district, and didn't. I kick myself for not taking the time to shhot those areas. Now, I'm 800+ miles away... Moral to the story: while you have the opportunity, get those pictures! You may not have the chance tomorrow...
What is that Warbonnet Dash-8 doing down there, I could of swore that BNSF had all the Warbonnets up in the NW, at least it seems like that. Kevin
