Does anyone know if any of the Santa Fe 86' boxcars have been painted into the BNSF scheme? I'm trying to find information and pictures and can't seem to find any. Any info is greatly appreciated. SantaFeDan OSU 42, Michigan 7 :tb-biggrin::thumbs_up:
According to "BNSF Railway Freight Cars: Volume One" by Robert C. Del Grosso, BNSF painted 32 cars of their fleet of 225. (down to 144 by 2003) These are the center double plug-door version. BNSF had very few of the dual double plug-door cars and as of 2003 none were repainted. There are a couple of photos in the book. The standard scheme is mineral brown with silver doors. One shown had sans serif BNSF reporting marks with no logo, while the other two had the standard BNSF reporting mark font and a small white circle-cross BNSF logo. A fourth photo was a one-off...sans serif, no logo, and doors painted mineral brown too.
