OK, here's my first attempt at posting a pic with our new digital camera. Hope it works! Hopefully we see my not-yet-completed, custom painted BNSF C44-9W on my home layout. One might notice the correct, 4 window arrangement on this unit. Thanks BLMA (Craig)! Russ [ 26 May 2001: Message edited by: tehachapifan ]
Rus That is a very good photo. excellent job on the engine. Your layout looks like it could be great.
tehachapifan, That looks very good! A coat of paint on the rails, finsih the scenery, and you'll have a great looking layout. Nice job. Mike
Thanks guys! Here's another shot of a different location on my layout. The above photo shows the 4354 exiting a tunnel at the top of my helix. This photo shows a train exiting the tunnel, out of view on the left, at the bottom of the helix. The tracks through this canyon are at the lowest elevation on my layout. Russ
As always Russ, Great modeling and a Great picture to boot! Your weathering on the GPS dome makes it look very realistic. I am doing a H II (a lot like yours actually) that will be #4426, which I saw in Cajon about a year and a half ago. Also, I will be getting in contact with you shortly about sending me a pic for the "Customer Gallery" of my site. Thanks for posting!
Russ, Im not one that normally posts "good job" posts that much, but that second picture of yours looks so realistic already, I cant wait to see it completed. Ive never seen anyone do a complete canyon like that before. Once again, WOW! Mike
Thanks for the comments guys! Paul, the rocky cliffs were made with Leightweight Hydrocal and a single, large (about 8 X 24") rubber mold that I used repeatedly. I shmooied the mold right onto the hard shell base, then peeled the mold away when it began to set up. I then carved the seams to blend better. Russ
Russ, Any idea who manufactures the mold i have a perfect place on my layout where I would like to have some high rock work? Thanks
I'm not entirely sure who made the mold, although I suspect it was Feather Lite. They don't seem to be in the 2001 N Walthers, however. I did find them in my 1999 HO catalog (pg 340). What's weird is they advertised rock castings and not molds in there. But item 311-124 is the EXACT casting my mold makes. This is one of those things you buy on sight at a shop, never really noting who made it. Plus I got it over 5 years ago. Russ
Russ, your canyon is an impressive piece of model railroading as it is. And your H2 -9 looks very nice. As pointed out, the weathering around the GPS dome looks great. Another photo highlighting the track to scenery ratio that makes N such a great scale to model in. I'd love to see the finished photos when done. Gary.
Great work Russ. Scenery like this prompts us all to look at what we have done and helps us improve our layouts. Woodland Scenics have some rubber molds for sale in our local hobby stores. I have also used a rubber product to make some of my own. That was years ago and I do not remember the name.
