I've found a supplier that has some L-L GP-20's in BN in stock. Did any of these make it to the BNSF merger? Many ATSF's were rebuilt and did survive (IIRC) but I have no real good data on BN GP-20's w/o digging out books that were stored to make inventory space.
George, According to BN Photo Archive , all BN's Geep 20's got retired in the 80's, and 7 made it to BNSF minus rebuild. The ten each rebuilt units became GP20C's, were retired in the early 90's. George, check your email...
This is an interesting developement. I would't mind getting a hold of a few more of these. Does this mean we can expect to see some at one of our favorite retailers? The BN units started life as CB&Q. Looks like a few did make it to BNSF. Some were sold off to GLLX, some were scrapped. This is the first site I came accross with references. Not all of them, John. Some were Great Northern High-Hood units, run long-hood-forward in GN tradition.
True enough, but since the LL GP20s are low hood I would suspect the GN units are not represented amoung them.
That's a great little article on the kitbash. A few good ideas (like the LED wrap) even if using the low hood. I do prefer the blue sceme over the pumpkin, but that's just a matter of taste (similar to high/low hood). The CB&Q is a great scheme also. I guess after seeing so many in armour yellow everything else looks better.
