I'm glad to see this was posted. Believe it or not, [IMG] for some reason I'd never seen the Executive E unit.

The E unit is there as well? I knew they'd acquired the F units. Guess I'd better go check out the IRM web site!

Why do they need parts for BN-1? It's a GP-38-2 on the inside. They should be able to get it all from other sources.

Maybe not just the drivetrain parts, but cab parts, say for wreck repairs? Beats me!

    But BN-2 doesn't have a cab.

In the beginning, it is my understanding that BN-3 suffered major mechanical failure while out on a test run. It was set aside to determine if they wanted to spend the money to fix it. Meanwhile, it was decided to get rid of BN 1, BN 2 and BN 3. I was not aware of the current status of these particular units. The passenger cars were put into storage in Kansas City while they awaited their fate.

Any idea what kind of failure? It too had normally asperated 645 12 cylinder prime movers installed.

I can't remember for sure. I don't know if it was electrical in nature or not. The only thing I remember was that it never performed up to expectation. I think it was around the Devner area when it went down. I don't know the date.

IRM has nothing much to say. I know that both were in good repair in 2002 when I visited.

Oh, and BN-3 is used to pull trains, so it must be working now at least well enough for the museum.

I was inside of a couple of them when they
were at Eola yard. CRS which numbers.
I was working 2nd shift East Yard at the time.
The other switchman with me is also a railfan
so we were getting our "foaming" time in while
    on the job.
