I was wondering if anyone would or might know the info on a BN 12127. Any help would be greatly appreciated!:tb-confused:
That number suggests it's a 30' extended vision steel caboose, purchased new by BN after the merger. Green with yellow ends. I
12127 Built in 3/77 Etended Vision Cupola Pacific Car and Foundry Weight:53,000 lb Length: 30ft Width: 8-8 3/8 Height: 6' -11 13/16 Coupler Type: E "Burlington Northern Caboose Book" Robert C Del Grosso
It would be nice to get it restored interior and all... that would be wayyyy expensive though. Fun museum project though.:tb-biggrin:
Speaking of caboose's, Interbay has just repainted/re-furbished one, and is strarting on at least two more. The one they fisinished is BN green with a small BNSF swoosh on it, but is still lettered for BN. I have alos heard Ceeco has done at least 1 for Tacoma. I heard they are doing this because the one we still have around are getting very trashed and some jobs require them still. Kevin
There is one of these re-paints in Tacoma, and I heard there is one recently painted now in Seattle, at Balmer Yard in Interbay.
I thought Spokane might get into the act also as I saw a Caboose in the roundhouse at Parkwater. But it seems all they did was weld big steel plates over the remaining windows, and doors. They did not even cut them to the proper size or paint them. Kevin
There's 2 more sitting on West 27th behind the Ashley Furniture Store that haven't been repainted. Here's a heads-up: Get your pictures of the Bayard Sugar Factory (if your interested) because it, Mitchell and Gering are slated for demolition according to the Sugar Co-operative.
YES!!! the 12598 and the 12547. One used to be the FWD 183, I forget the other. They are sitting in Jenkins. West end of Scottsbluff, They were rebuilt or refurbished at the Spokane? WFE shops back in the late 80's early 90's. the coupola windows are left open constantly and I hate to see the interior of those! especially in the winter! the 12598 I think has some tags on it, one of the two. The rooves are painted green also.
