I picked up a Athearn-Genesis Blue Box F7 as it was in Cotton Belt livery, and it was cheap ($125). It ran well on test track and layout, so I removed shell then installed engineer and weathered body. Back on track it was doing the shaka-shaka-boop and running forward without command. Determined somehow that I shorted board by a crossed wire. Bought new board (but has ALCO sounds). Loco worked on test track, then headlight burned out as soon as I placed diesel on layout track. I hear the Athearn bulbs have a life shorter than that of a Tsetse Fly. I purchased some Evan Design prewired LEDs with resistor & bridge, but they won't fit in the two tiny headlight holes. So, now I'll try installing old reliable 0402 LEDs with a 1K as replacement. So much for the "cheap" engine. D'oh!!!
Did you use resistors in the light circuit ? You'll need a 1/4 watt 1000 ohm Resister in every light circuit that has a led . Mike
