We saw this set of blue and yellow units over Tehachapi in Feb 1999. I wonder if it is still possible to see any sets of power in all blue and yellow these days. Kevin?

Even then, this train had some of the rarer units, like this GP20

    and this SDF40-2

    and an SDF45

It's possible, but getting harder and harder because of all the new and repainted power in the fleet. Most BNSF trains I see have a mix of power in different schemes....and here in SoCal at least, the C44-9W's in H2 paint seem to be everywhere, on almost every train!

I haven't seen an all yellow/blue set of power on a mainline train through Bakersfield in a long time. There is usually a pair switching the yard, usually GP30/GP35/GP38's. One place I remember hearing that solid sets can be found is on mainline locals out of Barstow. They tend to use four or five units, and a lot of power in that pool has side-stepped the paint gun. That being said, I think almost all blue/yellow power has at least been patched. Catch it while you still can, because when it's gone...it's gone for good.

Very few solid consists in the Kansas City area, I did see one unit in a lashup with red and silver on the mainline out of Ottawa the other day that had what looked like a brand new repaint, no patch, but I was driving on the highway and couldn't get close enough to the train, in fact it was running faster than the highway speed.

No full consists here either. There is a single unit in the Grand Junction yard. Man, I miss seeing those in regular service!

I suppose it is inevitable that solid consists of blue and yellow are about gone. The Picture at the start of this thread had five units at the head end all in blue and yellow, the 94-car train also had two pushers, but unfortunately one was in red and silver (B40-8W). Almost a full set!

Below are the pushers at caliente

There isn't much Blue and Yellow in the Houston area anymore. Just a few smaller units. BNSF has made a deal with the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission to move older units out of the Houston area to help reduce pollution.

In the yards at Albuquerque NM, we get Blue and Yellow quite frequently. Also green and white. Just last week, as I was driving over the bridge on Bridge Blvd, I noticed a B&Y, R&Y, H1, H2, BN and some others I didn't get a good look at :D D

That blue & yellow diesel is GP30 2468- its mate is BNSF GP38 2300 (I'm guessing it's ex-Frisco by the looks of it).
The most amazing thing is that I can still see a GP30 on a Class 1 in ANY kind of service, not being towed dead to the scrapper.

I left Kansas in 1999 but until that time I still regularly saw those colors.

Ya know, when they ran blue and yellow, I missed the Warbonnet, and when they went back to the Warbonnet, I missed the blue and yellow. Now I miss them all :( Another good reason to model, ATSF will live forever!
