I need some help trying to design a new end loop and staging yard entrance. The layout is in N scale, and the grid is 3" squares. If I can figure out how to embed it, a picture of my latest idea is below for review. The main flow of traffic is counterclockwise and will enter the loop at 'B' and leave at 'A'. Currently, I am running DC, but will possibly upgrade to DCC later this winter. I am considering wiring for a reverse loop between 1 and 2, with the whole yard included in the loop. Does this make sense? The wye leg leaving the staging yard, is a 15" radius. I will handlay the curved TO on this leg, but may use #7 atlas c55 where possible for the other turnouts to save time. The spurs to the inside of the track will be serving an industry which ideally will serve as a partial viewblock of the track behind it. Thinking of a mill/brewery with a small building or grain elevator to the left of the spur and a long, rectangular building on the right. I am open to other industry types, too. Any suggestions on improving this area? A couple of given/druthers: as few tracks as possible crossing the joint between the blob and the yard, as it needs to be movable. western theme, no specific locale modern, running UP/SP in mid/late 90's Thanks nodima [ 09. Looks quite do-able to me. The only thing that I can see, given 3" squares, is the industry tracks will be minimal in length. But this may not be a problem. Will be interesting to see some photos of the bult results! Boxcab E50
The industry tracks will be short, but the real reason for the industry is a view block, so it is an easy compromise to make. I may move that turnout counterclockwise a bit to gain some length if needed. A and B do not go to a crossover, they go along a 1x12' shelf as false double track. nodima
