Someone apparently doesn't know the proper orientation of crossbucks. That one says "crossing railroad" instead of "railroad crossing".

And in case anyone was wondering, that thing on top of the post is the "bell".

 

That particular gate is protecting the track(s) nearest to you. If they came down, they could potentially trap traffic in between the two sets of tracks
