Question for this forum, could you tell me if this HOn3 Blackstone K27 Dcc / Sound decoder is defective? I have everything but the chuff, makes one chuff and then vanishes. I have every other sound on this decoder. I did reset the decoder to factory default!

This is a new one for me!

Thanks for any help, also if I need to replace what would be the best upgrade?

    Thanks for all the help...

Blackstone locos use a cam to trigger the chuff . I am guessing that either the cam is broken or more likely the wire to the decoder is bad/broken . Blackstone should be able to repair that for a small fee . Or you could remove the old decoder and replace it with a Tsunami 2 Steam 2 decoder . The new decoders do not need the chuff cam . Without the cam, if you want chuffs synchronized with the steam piston (drive link) position, you have to manually synchronize them.

The Blackstone K-27s have a cam on the back of the motor and a sensor on top of the chassis. They seem delicate and a bit likely to wander in my opinion. I'm always sure to make sure it secure and running true before reassembly. A previous owner may not have been so diligent...

As already noted, check the wire connection too.

I would not rush into changing the decoder before eliminating "simple" things.
