Hi Guys, I've been looking for some information on AT&SF's Big Lift piggyback facility around when it opened in 1987 or so. It is located just south of Littleton, CO on the Joint Line. Does anybody have pictures of the facility when it first opened, or a couple years thereafter?
Where is this in relation to Denver? The person I received this from said outskirts of Denver. Is that where Littleton is located? AT&SF train order- Date shown is December 12, 1985. Not much help. But perhaps slightly interesting? Boxcab E50
Never was much to look at even in it's prime. A couple of straddle cranes and 8 or 10 tracks. It never developed as hoped for by ATSF. Now it would be huge but then then just could not get the intermodal traffic for the Denver market. At recession that that area was in at the time did not help.
Right. There was a good article on the BN yard in Model Railroader in late 80's/early 90's timeframe. I do remember the special trailers ATSF had marketing the Denver lift. Something like "New $15 Million Denver Intermodal Facility", but I can't remember the exact figure or wording.
Thanks for the info Wig-Wag, I'll have to give some serious thought about including it in my layout. I do like the Microscale decals they have touting the "new" facility. It looks as if it is a staging area for some tank cars and hoppers and helpers pushin' the Joint Line now. It is south of Denver and Littleton, about a thirty minute drive from Denver on south 85 on the right. Quite visible from the road. Thanks guys! Chuck
