Wow, those photos have made my opinion of a 0.25 out of 10 to a 0.5 out of 10 What an UGLY UGLY scheme! Oh well, at least alot of the 'old' CSX scheme units will be running around for along time. Heck, some of them should be just as shiny as the 8503! Dane
It looks pretty nice to me. As much as it may disappoint many of you, market stratagy for brand recognition usually involves how the general public feels about certain color schemes, rather than how railfans and MRR's feel. Like it or not, it's here.
The new paint job is a return to the drab single-color dip jobs. While not as bad as the "stealth" scheme CSX had (gray with blue lettering), I've gotta admit I've seen better. However, if I was a B&O or C&O fan, I'd be dancing in the streets right now..... This paint may be here, but it'll never be on all of the diesels- there are plenty of locomotives with other paint jobs out there, so you'll see your favorite paint for quite a while.
Well, I am a (among others) CO/BO fan, and I loved Chessie and the old blue-yellow scheme, especially the C&O version with more yellow for high contrast. So I think its a great scheme! I like high contrast schemes, so someone would have to explain to me their attraction to the old gray versions? Perhaps a side interest in the American Civil War?
Now if they could only ditch the CSX and go back to a real railroad name, Then I'll be dancing! C&O or B&O would be allright with me! a capital dome on the nose or a "for progress" will complete the picture
