Does anyone know what the best Testors / Polly Scale / Model Master / whatever acrylic yellow would be to paint a depot to match the renovated C&O passenger stations along the Amtrak Cardinal route? For example, this one at Alderson, WV... Alderson West Virginia: Monroe County: C&O Station by Chuck & Alice Riecks, on Flickr Or the original yellow used backin the 1890s or so, as well... Thanks! -TD
Looking at the Testors site a bit, I'm thinking of either using CSX Yellow or SAL Yellow... hmmm?? I did find this book online which says the original color was known as "Colonial Buff". I wonder if Lowe's or Home Depot has that...
Are you planning on modeling the station in it's current state or in the past? I would contact the C&O Historical Society. They usually have modeling notes that include what paint colors work well for structures. Historical societies have saved me a bunch of research work.
If I use the yellow, it would be one of the refurbished stations in the present. Checking with the C&OHS would be a good idea, I didn't know they'd keep track of which model paints are good matches. I suppose I could also ask about whoever is repainting the stations (not sure if that's C&OHS or local groups or city or whatever). Thanks!
Here is a photo of one of the old C&O passenger cars in the original colors. I consider somewhat of an organish color. I havent heard of what the exact color is called. But contacting the C&O Historical society is a great idea. They always respond with info.
And this from the COHS http://cohs.org/cgi-bin/cohs_search.pl?st=Colonial+Buff&textsubmit=GO&tr=AND&io=YES&lp=1&sl=100 And the Athearn C&O coach http://www.athearn.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=RND84861
