Been a long time since I have even picked up a copy of MR or any other hobby related magazine. Every time I do, I cuss and fuss, cause they have come out with the model that I have been ever so calmly waiting for!!!,lol. So I have chosen to go back to an old freind known as model railroading.

I remember when I was a kid , and N scale was a joke. Now I am just wayyyyyyyy impressed by the quality. I have always been a proponent of the more track the better. So I was like " n scale, Hmmmmmm!???", but on the other hand, I have always liked industrial switching. Having had the pleasure of operating some fine MR's in both scales I am pulled in two directions. HO or N?

The N scale argument can be contributed to the CVS of Bill and Wayne Reid. I met them through a mutual freind. One word describes the CVS, AWESOME!! The scenery, the detail, the quality of the operating sceme and just the fellow modelers there with ya. The HO scale argument can be put on the helping friends with their pikes and then also operating some fine HO scale systems. One comes to mind, It was a Soo line from the 50's with the ugly center cabs and all. LOL.

I am a soo fan first and then milw and cnw next. I had the pleasure of working fer the cnw fer a short time before the ax fell, before the merger. Proviso looks itimidating, but you can learn it and know where you are going. Nothing like working the pull down jobs and seeing the Belt alco's come down 19 main, can't miss the exhuast!!!! But the SOO brings all the childhood memories back. Like when they bout the Milwaukee road. Seeing red and white along black and orange at bensenville engine facility, btw, which is right next to a major road :D .

So what do I want to do?. Well,,, I want major industries and a nice sized yard. Continuos running fer when I wanna just sit on my butt :D Off line staging fer operating. In all I just want the perfect model rail road!!!. The only bad thing is,,,,, I can not track plan to save my life :( . I have a couple of ideas, but they just get lost in all the open space, lol. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Well now I live in texas on the UPRR to goes to, I dont know, and comes from, I do not know that either. I do know that my town, thornton, the line goes south to ,Kosse, Bremond, Hearne. Which Hearne is a nice sized yard, at one time I think it was SP, but I do not know, I know just north of the yard there is a crossing that head east and west, maybe that was the SP.

Well adios from texas all. I am glad I found a place to vent my frustration and share my joys. ADIOS

Hi soo_milw_cnw, Welcome to the TrainBoard, we're glad to have you on board! [IMG]

I've been in N-Scale for the past 15 years, and was in HO for the 40 years before that. I have to say that today's N-Scale products are far superior to anything I had in HO. Also, you can create more railroading with N in the same amount of space. [IMG] Of course, at my age, I have to use a work light with a magnifying lens in the middle.

Welcome aboard soo_milw_cnw. Good to see there's another lunatic out there. I'm a N Scale Soo (and TC&W/BN) modeller too.

We have had a Soo prototype forum here in the past which has now been integrated into the Fallen Flags forum under Canadian Predecessors. Set your 'show topics' field (top right of page) to 'all' and you will get most of the threads created here. You will need to trawl through the subject but they are for the most part easily recognised. There are even a few MILW topics as well. The alternative is to use the search function to find particular topics.
Same goes for CNW except that would be under the UP Predecessors forum.

Hope this is of help. Any other regarding the Soo (there's 2 other mods here that follow it) /MILW/CNW questions please feel free to post in the Fallen Flags forums, drop an email.

As for ideas in layout design, try the Layout Design Forum to kick around a few ideas. Rick and Rob (one of the Soo dudes) moderate it and there is a wealth of information amongst the members to assist you.

    Cheers,

I find that I respond more to the layout than the scale, except when engines are by themselves, like at the LHS, or on a shelf. I prefer HO but I model in N as I am able to get the "size" of the layout I wanted in N. At train shows, some of my favourite modular units have been N.
