Well, after taking a couple years off from painting, I went full speed into making some BC Hydro MP-15's. And of course as soon as I got started Atlas announced these on the next release - go figure Still, overall I'm happy with the results. Now my Milwaukee Road trains can have an additional interchange partner in Sumas, WA.
I saw these on Atlas release sheet. Yours are very nice, and are also a reminder of why I am a little worried that someone will release an Olympian Hiawatha in N just when I get done with mine. I had a question. What would BC Hydro have used these for. I am familiar with their hydroelectric power business, and I have been to some of their facilities including Revelstoke, but I have no idea what BC Hydro would pull. Adam
BC Hydro owned an interurban line that ran from downtown Vancouver, all the way out to Chilliwack. The line had an interchange at Sumas, which is where he is modeling. The catenary was taken down and they used these, along with sd38's. The railway is now Southern Railway of British Columbia, which is owned by the same people as Montana Rail Link. Here is a map of their route. In the old days The line went farther west from New West all the way to downtown Vancouver.
Thanks Gary! The handrails were done with a piece of styrene dipped in black paint. When I looked at the prototype it appeared that the person hand-painted it and used inconsistent distances between stripes. That gave me the go-ahead to not be 100% perfect in my stripes
Thanks for the information, Josh! We had something similar in my area with one of the early hydroelectric dams on the Clackamas River. There was, for years, an electric train that went all the way from Portland to Estacada (named often the Cazadero line) running off power generated by the dam. The dam is still there. SOme of the line has been abandoned, but you can see relics here and there - mostly a raised linear "bump" covered in blackberries. About 3/4 of the line was preserved as a bike trail.
The Milw actually interchanged across the border at Huntingdon. Something few fans seem to know. Somewhere I have a picture that shows the Milw, NP and CP depots all in the same frame. Boxcab E50

Skytrain, the Greater Vancouver area LRT, follows a lot of the original BC Hydro route from New Westminster to Vancouver. Some of the original abandoned track is still there, but most of the track in the city of Vancouver is long gone.
Great job on the MP15DC's now if only some one would make an MP15AC in plastic we would have it made in N Scale.Really like the paint job on the units great work,Peter.
After looking at those pictures again I recognize that layout! Saw it today at the Lynden show! Great layout, didn't happen to see the MP15's out though!
Thanks. The MP15's were out on Saturday. Due to family obligations I wasn't able to attend on Sunday. The Lynden, WA show is fantastic - great organizers (The Lions Club) and probably the friendliest support staff backing them up.
