Food for thought... With Buffetts $$$, bussiness sense and shrewdness...he could buy out ALL the RR's in the U.S. and put em under BNSF's banner. Then he could split BNSF back into BN and SF...and the war bonnets could be resurrected and rule the rails once again!!! ...mmmmmm. *Now that I lit that fuse...I shall just slink away back into my corner and...watch...lol :tb-biggrin: .
I hear he's open to suggestions on a name change. Still on the short list: Santa Fe. Rejected suggestions: Lionel, Marx. :we-wink:
Well, George, nice thought, but I think that if Mr. Buffet tried to buy all the railroads in the U.S., the government might think that was an antitrust violation (creation of a monopoly) and I suspect the courts would agree. But there's certainly no reason that Warren B. couldn't order the BNSF to start painting half its units in the warbonnet scheme . . . and there is no reason I know of that the engines have to have "BNSF" lettering on them - he could order the paint shop to paint "Santa Fe" on the warbonnet units, and that would be that. Heck, for that matter he could have 25% of the locos painted as Great Northern; another 25% as Northern Pacific; another 25% as the CB&Q; and the other 25% in Santa Fe. Let's bring 'em all back . . .
