I hate it when I know the answer...chuckle! Bob and all tuned in, Thanks for the heads up and I won't ask. I hate it when I know the answer! Looking forward to seeing one of these on my layout. Joe, I will also be looking forward to MT's contribution as well. Thanks for the heads up.
I am sure the TrainCat and MT Bay window Cabooses will be the best of whats available when released. The ones out there now are 'old school' tooling. I have an Overland SP Bay window that is very nicely done, but at it's price, only have one. I think that the manufacturers like Bob and MT that keep doing the models like these will reap the rewards. I would rather have a couple very nicely done models then a fleet of the older style cabooses. Like my ATSF CE Kitbashes, and don't get me wrong....I Love doing kitbashes....I spent extra money for the trucks, brass detailing, roofwalks, and other things. So in the end, for around $30, plus the time to do the kitbash, I end up with a close representation of the real thing. It would be well worth it to me to spend $30-$40 for one of Bob's kits. You still get the fun of building it, but you end up with a much closer model of the real thing.
PS......Bob and Joe, I'm glad to see the Bay Windows on your lists of models you will be doing. I think that when people watch a model train go by they focus on two things....the locomotives, and the cabooses. It will be nice to finally have some good Bay Windows to pull up the rear.
oops, sorry. The roof is from a PennZee Z scale reefer. It matched the real caboose perfectly. I drew the outer sides in autoCAD and had King Mill laser etch them in plastic: http://www.kingmill.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=3&page=4 I glued those side over my brass sides.
Of the stuff that was available at one time my favorites are the walthers and this (photo below) from ER models. I found two of these on ebay a while back.
"Joe, I will also be looking forward to MT's contribution as well." What MT contribution? Have I missed something (which wouldn't surprise me)???
Back up and read the previous posts! If you are wondering what's transpired you can always back-up and read the previous posts. Joe and Bob have both indicated here that we will be seeing some prototypically correct crummies here in the near future. Take a read and see what's here. I guarantee you will like what you learn. Have fun.
Ryan T, Can't be sure for the bay window yet. The SP C-40-3 Steel Cupola is going to be about $42.50 and will be available through dealers.
Yes your correct about that< I already placed two on Pre-Order with TexNRails to make sure I'm not left out of the Loop.
Well until Joe(MT), and Bob(TrinCat) come out with there I filled the gap with my transformation of a Walthers (Chessie) Bay Window not the best but for what's out there at the present it will have to do. It was my first attempt and wish I had some others to perfect the process but I'll share what I've done. Sure will be nice when those come out though.
Update on SP C-40-6 Hey guys, Artwork is nearing completion on the SP C-40-6 Bay Window caboose. Just thought you might want a peek.
Check out the below link, although looks like still in preparation at the mo. http://traincat2.com/models.htm
I got an old Atlas one off eBay. It wasn't too ridiculous. The best I can tell is that it's from about 1967. There's a number something like 09-1967 on the packaging somewhere. I have swapped out the couplers since I don't use Rapidos. I am going to paint it up like this one: WPRR 2 I gotta get the art together and get some custom decals made. I am thinking of making a couple extra sets if I can get my hands on more bay window cabooses.
http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1054218 Gee, a GWI caboose that isn't orange... now that's a rarity!!!
The PNWR/WPRR has only one orange one, and I think they actually call that one their conference car. The others are painted chinese red, according to insiders who work for the railroad and frequent the yahoo group. The reason for this, or so the legend goes, is that they got a good deal on the paint from Gunderson in Portland (the people who make the rail cars), and that the guy who bought so much paint was a huge CB&Q fan.
Yes they do, however last check they were out of stock and have been for wuite some time now. I'm looking as well
