I figure it would be appropriate to run a layout like the AT&SF or the SP. You know...great western railroads that 'died' along the way. ;);)(y)(y)

    Really George? :confused::confused::eek::censored:

Badlandnp, change up that picture as follows.

How about? Bored out of your skull. Need to bring life into your hobby?

Picture this. An ambulance. Like the Pontiac one I drove. 1967 Superior Pontiac Ambulance.

This might work. Robert Ray, a neighbor and I head out to a train show. We drive up in the Ambulance with T-TracK sectionals or even something newer. All stacked in the back.

I wouldn't be allowed to have red lights but we could have yellow lenses. We roll up with the lights flashing. Park in a spot reserved for us. We Roll out the T-Track sections, on a drop down gurney and set them up. Throw up a canopy that's easier to work with then the one I put up here. Crank up the generator in the ambulance and wallah we have a Model Railroad to show off.

A wet bar of soda's and ice. That replaces the old emergency supply cabinet behind the front seat. With trains stored in roll out cabinets.

Oh, I'd still have a first aid kit on board, a stethoscope, blood pressure gauge. I'm not allowed to diagnose a patient but I can advise them to either go to E.R. or see a M.D. ASAP.

I'm not into the beer thing and so on. I'd make a great Mormon. Sadly, I picked up enough people under that influence to last me through two life times. After the emergency was over I might get called to return to the scene with the hearse or first call wagon. To pick up those killed by the same said person. Not going to happen here. Now you know why. After all this is about model railroading and an ambulance.

After the sections are put together and trains running. Knowing Robert, it would be Z Scale. Even better considering how much layout we can have.

Then, you ready for this? Roll out a barbecue and serve up hamburgers, steak, potato salad (homemade of course) chips and dips. Now what do you think of that? Humm, we could charge for the food and the funds would go toward improving the layout. Yes or no?

Trying to think of a tricky by line. Something, I can put on the side of the Ambulance. :)

    Trains to the rescue. No!

Do I have to ask? Help me out here!

    Later!

Would the locomotives "come alive", though?

You're overthinking It...lol. You would need a food vendors permit in every state and city you stopped in ! To much like work for me.

I can see Rick...sitting in a lawn chair next to a hearse...and people watching the trains run. He would have them all mesmerized with his tales of his family of rails and the history of the AT&SF along with his mortician tales. (y)(y)

In all this fun we've been having. I've noticed an absence. Not that I'm taking role call.

    Have we lost Massey?

    I hope everything is okay.

When people drank pop (soda) and were proud of it and the US life expectancy was steadily rising and has now started dropping.

Thanks Doug, You Kind of opened a door I've been wanting to walk through and comment on. You said, "US life expectancy was steadily rising and has now started dropping." That's true. Very true.

Allow me to share something from a mortician's perspective. For budgetary purposes we us a 1% figure to predict the number of deaths in any given community. We are talking about the potential death's from any and all causes. One percent of the population is expected to die. In some communities it will be slightly higher but you would need a decimal point to describe that.

For example if we have over 350 million people in America, then we would expect 3.5 million to die in a years time. I've looked at Covid19 and the number of deaths reported. We are just over 1/2 million people who've passed from the Chinese Disease. Not even close to the expected death rate. Although these numbers are astounding. The emotional losses staggering. It is safe to say that this many people would of died from pneumonia, in a years time. Today, you can get a shot for Pneumonia. I'd highly recommend you get one of those.

I'm not saying you shouldn't practice good hygiene, like washing your hands or wearing PPC when out in public. You should do what you can to protect yourself. Dieing from Covid 19 can be avoided.

If you are reading me correctly. Our reaction to Covid 19 has been right on. I trust the advice put out by CDC and the various M.D.'s who've stood up and gave us directions on how to protect ourselves. Advice worth taking and practicing.

There are some things...do I dare say... are overkill. Example, shutting down whole businesses and manufacturing, places of worship, sports events, TV shows and more. Unless you want to kill the economy.

Any fourth generation quatenary disinfectant is safe to use in your home, place of business and hospitals. It will kill most if not all pathogens out there. Exception being Tuberculosis. Most need a wet 5 to 15 minute kill time. Allow it to air dry.

    That's it in a nutshell.

Okay, I've most likely have people uncomfortably squirming in their chairs. About to hit the mute button.

Now back to my train layout.

"Wireus Repairus" is coming right along. I was able to get under the train table and get some wires stripped. Sorry, no pictures yet.

Thanks! An expert's info/opinion! That's what we need instead of the dead heads on TV! The authoritarianism is what gets to me. They arrested that poor gal at a ball game, sitting all by herself, for not wearing a mask. OK, I guess that's enough bordering on political.

Anyway, I think I may be able to fish the wires back up through table to resolder on my layout instead of having to crawl under there. I don't know if the hole is big enough. :D

    Carry on with yours.

How about a Southern Pacific Train Days on the Howland and Pacific N scale train layout? A reflection on the past good times when the train layout/railroad was up and running.

The first long distance SP freight through Ashfork Junction. The lead unit wearing what has been popularized as the Kodak or Kodachrome pre-merger paint scheme for SP and ATSF. I still think it looks sharp.

Yes, I see it. If only Kato would produce a Santa Fe 4-8-4.

A SD 9 in the SP, Black Widow Livery pulls a local across Dry Gulch Bridge.
4e-SP Black Widow Crossing Dry Gulch Bridge.JPG

Humm, how did this sneek in here? The look alike Santa Fe Train Station, San Bernardino, Ca. You can see the trolley line. Tightest curves I've ever seen. The sign, No Smoking Unless You Are a Steam Engine. My kind of sign. And yes my elbow managed to show up.

Typical of San Bernardino, some guys managed to get away with the wheels on the Greyhound bus. Wouldn't you know.

Some "Wireus Repairus" needed with the telephone poles. Aiiyiiyii !!

2011-06-26 BIG BEAR MODEL RR TOUR 002.jpg

SP passenger trains get rolling as we celebrate the opening of the H&P Main Line. Looks like Santa Fe jumped into this picture. They have a way of taking advantage of a photo opportunity. Two different SP trains. Topside, the Lark with some Daylight cars in the Consist.
Below the Coast Daylight, working it's way up grade. That's a 24" radius curve your looking at. Doesn't that make the passenger trains look awesome?

Here's some of the head end power lashed-up together. Is that coupler on the nose of the lead unit what I think it is? @#&%!!
    New Camera 046.jpg
    That's it for now.
Got's to get some breakfast, change out all the clocks, change my depends. Say what? What did I say? Not yet but I fear that's coming next.

    Have a Great Sunday.

    Your welcome.

Doug, I saw that as well and it wasn't necessary. Heart breaking to watch. A sign of the times.

Do I dare say an abuse of power.

Great pictures. I have always loved the SP schemes, especially the Black Widow. And, the Kodak scheme really does look like a box of Kodak film, doesn't it. It's funny how people come up with those nicknames.

And that behemoth Bachmann 4-8-4. I have one of that iteration, too, and it runs very decently.
