Based on some other shots posted to our new Railfan Photo forum, and in partial answer to Alan's question about Barstow, how about getting out our Barstow photos and posting them here? ;) This one was taken from an overpass which I believe is still there. The photo goes back to December 1991 when the 3751 finally made its long delayed first run following restoration. Since then, the wonderful old ATSF depot has been refurbished. I have not been there to fan for a long time. The yards would be "behind" the photographer in this shot. [IMG] [IMG]

Great angle. The way the train disappears in the distance pulls me into the scene. There is also a good sense of scale with the people present in the picture.

Great picture, Fitz! Such a contrast to the normal scene (i.e. totally deserted). Is the restoration complete? Last time I was there they were still working on it. Also on the San Bernadino depot.

My Barstow pictures are in hard copy and still packed away - and likely to remain that way till after the next move. However, I plan to be out in that neighborhood next month, so weather cooperating, I'd have a few to contribute...

William, I think the depot restoration is complete, but don't know for sure. Next time we get down there I intend to check it out. Let us know what you find. [IMG]

The "old" yard is to the right of your pic w/ "new" yard behind you. Was there as BNSF conductor when 3751 came thru on way to '99 Railfair.

As promised, here are a few Barstow pics I was able to get last weekend. The weather was very hazy, giving me a good excuse for pictures that aren't up to everybody's high standards [IMG]

Higher resolution versions of these shots are on Page 2 of my RailImages gallery.

The first picture is a wide angle view of the western portion of the yard (looking westward).

This is a closer-up view of the hump yard and the shops.

Here is a view to the east, of the passenger depot and another portion of the yard.

    Here's a close-up of the hump.

And here is the same car in the braking section below the hump.

    Enjoy!

WOW! Thanks William, those are excellent overviews of the facility [IMG]

Not sure what high ground you were on, but I wish we had spent more time there on our '98 visit to investigate the whole area. Looks like there are several good spots for photography.
