After a 15 year or so absence I've come back into the train hobby. Talk about sticker shock! But it is amazing the changes that's come about. DCC was just getting started, sound was a dream.... The really, really great part, with the kids grown and out, now I HAVE DISPOSABLE INCOME! Its great fun to be back and I'm sure glad I kept all that stuff! "Gee, hon little Ethan will really love hearing that Atlas loco, I'll only buy one, I promise..." Greetings from Oklahoma!
Hi Dale, Welcome to the Train Board, glad to have you on board. I hope Little Ethan will enjoy his train too, especially if they are cheap enough, big enough, and sturdy enough for him to play with without you and his Mom being worried about them being anything more than his toys....
Actually it's me and Mimi. ET gets to sit in a bar stool and watch the action, I have to stop every once in a while and hold a locomotive for him to inspect. Little does he know there is enough nickel silver track left over to make a nice loop. Those old Athearns will be running again soon.
I'll add my welcome too, Dale. Maybe you can post a photo once in a while of your pike as you go along.
I'll make a few pictures and put them up. I'm working on a shelf switching layout. It started as a 15" by 8' and has now grown to 15" by 13', those sidings just keep getting longer! That's what I get for being in the grain-belt. I made the jump to DCC with a Dynamis System. I'm pretty happy with it so far. I feel it will do what I'm looking for. i have all the track down, wired and have started ballast. I have had a pretty aggressive car weathering program going. That's what I like about the hobby, the different aspects of what I can do with it. Thanks for the welcome! You guys take care, I'll be back soon.
This is my new layout in progress. 15" X 13'. I am using the Port of Catoosa industrial park for the theme. I will have grain, steel and manufacturing as "customers". I originally started this as a modular layout so I could move it as needed. It is now attached to the back wall of my garage. It's nice to be back in a group of model Railroaders.
