Seeing that they have done a 45 tonner side rod diesel in Large Scale, has anyone perhaps heard a rumor they'll do it also in On30? I've checked their web site, didn't spot anything. Or did I miss something? Boxcab E50
Doubt it. 45 tonner flopped in large scale, so can't see them repeating in On30. They've already done the side rod Davenport. Colorado
Bummer. I hadn't heard it was a flop. I wonder why? Any ideas? Mechanical troubles??? Was thinking it would be nice to have a two trucked factory On30 diesel. Oh well. Looks like conversions by BVM and maybe some day, Mocalova, are going to be the best route. Boxcab E50
Mechanically, the model is excellent, I just think the prototype didn't turn the large-scalers on. Probably would sell better to the On30 guys, but if it were my monopoly money, I can think of a half dozen locomotives I'd do before a risky one like this.
If you want to spend the money, a brass On30 45 tonner can be bought from Rich Yoder Brass. I've seen it run and it is SWEET. He also sells On3 and standard gauge versions of the 45 tonner. Even though it is a reasonablely priced engine and brass, it is hard to justify buying one. Greg
