Bachmann's generic caboose is great for what it is: a model of a turn-of-the century eight wheel narrow gauge way car. Great so far. Wait...did you say EIGHT wheeled? What about railroads that only ever used four wheel cabeese? The Colroado and Southern was one of these. It had only a single caboose in the style of the Bachmann center cupula caboose and I want to model it (it helps that I already have the model...it came with a train set...otherwise I would go with a kit of the more typical C & S four-wheeler). So, any ideas for converting the eight wheeler into a more prototypical four wheeler? Are there any ready made parts or chassis out there? John
Didn't Bachmann offer a 4 wheel (bobber) caboose? Believe I recently saw someone doing the opposite of your project. Taking two bobbers, and bashing a two truck side door. Boxcab E50
maybe you could cut out part of the body, move the cupola over, and scratch some wheel bolsters. Or, do what I did, buy the Grandt Line On3 kit #3071 C&S 1006. I'm still working on putting HO trucks underneath it.
I really like that On3 caboose...how hard is conversion to On30? As to the bobber...man, I don't know if Bachmann had one but if they did I would sure like to find one! I may end up scratchin the entire chassis but man that will take some time John
If anybody does make those parts, I'd bet on Grandt Line, or possibly Precision Scale Company. Otherwise? Boxcab E50
Grandt has caboose bolster parts but does not seem to have the entire wheel and undercarriage arrangement. I've not yet looked at Precision Scale... John
