    Roger,

    A quick rundown of the CV's that matter in my EM-1 that still has a stock decoder in it...

    CV1 = 3 (short address)
    CV2 = 0
    CV3 = 6
    CV4 = 5
    CV7 = 81 (Decoder Type identifier, not writeable)
    CV8 = 101 (Manufacture identifier, not writeable)
    CV29 = 6
    CV50 = 37 (lighting control)
    CV51 = 0 (lighting control)
    CV52 = 50 (dimming amount via F1)

    Thanks, Tony. I know the following match my locomotive's settings:
    CV7 = 81 (Decoder Type identifier, not writeable)
    CV8 = 101 (Manufacture identifier, not writeable
    I checked other CVs; I reset CV2, CV6 and CV5 to get the locomotive to move.

    I reset as listed below; the locomotive still does not RUN except at a creep every after running the NCE = 7 recovery.

    The correct CV reset is to program the value of 8 into CV8. Not sure what the NCE = 7 thing is.
    Some Lenz decoders have a reset at CV31 I think. This one reset at CV8 = 8 though for me.

    You should be able to manually enter the following CV's and get it back to normal if the reset isn't working for you.

    CV1 = 3 (short address)
    CV2 = 0
    CV3 = 6
    CV4 = 5
    CV29 = 6
    CV50 = 37 (lighting control)
    CV51 = 0 (lighting control)
    CV52 = 50 (dimming amount via F1)

    I understand when one uses the program track mode with NCE that selecting value 7 recovery reset to factory settings.

    I'm not sure I trust that for anything but NCE decoders. I'm not an NCE fan though and don't know how they work so it may work just fine, never dealt with them before. Not all decoders reset the same way, although most reset with CV8 = 8. There really couldn be a universal decoder reset unless it read the decoder type first and knew what CV to ping to reset the decoder.

    I have not encountered any problem like this with any other Bachmann locomotives and using the NCE power cab. I have not encountered the problem (period). I have Kato locomotives and some Model Power with DCC installed.

    My EM-1 is packed and the cover letter to B'mann written.
    I feel the manufacturer needs to address the issue with products that have problems.
    If they do not see this specific locomotive first hand there is no opportunity for them to exam it and see why it does not run.

    I think as consumers we are encouraging a "throw away" mentality and telling companies that shoddy products are acceptable. We are supporting planned obsolescence when we do NOT return faulty merchandise.

    Bachmann has happily repaired 3 or 4 locos for me, under warranty. I know it's frustrating, but give them a shot at it. I think thier warranty policy speakd to them wanting the trains to last.

    I agree. Give bachmann a chance. I have only 1 bachmann locomotive. I had to send it to Bachmann for repair/replacement. They where more then accommodating.

    I am planning to send the locomotive to Bachmann. I have had excellent experience with their program in the past and thus have every reason to think this will be satisfactorily resolved.
    PS: In my previous post, I did not mean to imply that this locomotive is a "shoddy product."
    I was speaking in more general terms that when the customer is not satisfied with a product, they need to let the maker know, and if it means returning the product, then they should do so.

    I have one and its problematic. I've traced an issue back to one of the flywheel scraping against the metal housing around the motor. This makes it run slower forward. When the flywheels rotates in reverse it doesn't scrape and runs normal speed. I will cure this myself.

    I sent my 7627 back to Bachmann for their attention. I also own the 7614 which seems to be running okay.
    Delightful locomotive and can be really more impressive with DCC sound.

    Mine will handle 9.75" radius curves just fine. Not sure what's wrong with yours.

    I bit the bullet and bought 1 today!!! Tell me about the Lenz decoder. Mark (spookshow) writes, it runs nearly silent! that's new for Bachmann!. From the above posts, it looks like it doesn't have speed tables. aside from that, is it better/different, from other stock Bmann decoders? Also, if it is better, has anyone heard if they are going to switch future runs/models, to the better decoder?

    I purchased two of these locomotives when they initially became available. I am delighted with them.
    John Colombo, who posts on this forum, has added sound decoders to one or two of these and posted information on this forum as well as YouTube videos.
    I have several other DCC Bachmann steam locomotives and feel the EM-1 run as well as any of them if not more smoothly. The EM-1s exceed my expectations.

    Sorry to bombard the forum with this, but I would like to add this loco to my JMRI roster, but it isn't listed. Anyone have any guidance? I've posted on JMRI group, Bachmann forum and here.

    Thanks

    I posted about this in a different thread. For the EM1 a "08" must be entered to restore to factory defaults, not "8". At least that's what I had to do from my NCE PowerCab. Apart from that small bit of confusion mine is fantastic.

    Marty,
    What brand/model decoder do you have installed? My understanding of DecoderPro is that while not all decoders are in the database, you can almost always select a compatible decoder so that you can add the locomotive to the roster.

    It is the factory default decoder. I'm hoping Bachmann will answer the question.
