I'm not sure if this is old news... but on the back page of the August 2020 Model Railroader magazine they are advertising a release of NYC (pre-streamlined) Hudson. I would imagine it is going to release around the same time as Kato's 20th Century Limited consist. No other road names are being announced... only 4 numbers for New York Central. $439 MSRP (DCC/Sound).
Not sure if the Kato version of the TCL was ever connected with these earlier Hudsons.

The news is about a week old:
    https://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/bachmann-announces-nyc-j3a-in-n-scale.132510/

Not on a regular basis, certainly.
The Kato TCL is the 1948 version and NYC EMD E7 locos starting arriving in 1945.
Unless none of the E7 locos were unavailable, or a set failed en route, it's extremely unlikely that you would have seen a Hudson pulling the 1948 version of the TCL - but that's not to say it never happened.

Now find a photo like that one, but with the 1948 version of the 20th Century Limited, which Kato is making.

Well... it is the first Hudson Class since ConCor put out a few in the 1980s.
Personally speaking I would have been more impressed with a Dreyfuss streamlined J3a.
Perhaps this release will lead to some other 4-6-4 models like the Milwaukee Road F7 Baltic.

I'd love to them do the streamlined J3a Hudson with Scullin disc drivers... and I would not hesitate to put the Kato TCL trailing it...

Now I know how the east coasters felt when Kato came out with the sp gs-4 and the up fef. Specific locomotive for a specific road. Still, it was time for NYC fans to get some love.
