Maybe some of the policies are just hold-overs from when the museum was owned by CSX Corp. years ago???

Sten: I agree with your sentiment and don't agree with their decision to take this route, but I respect their choice and I will abide by the rules.

OC: I am sure they will get it inside long enough to do some work on it eventually, but I don't think any of the larger equipment will be inside on a permenant basis. I am glad you enjoyed my images!

Stourbridge: I think about it from time to time but the railroad photos are just some of the pictures I have taken. If you look at my albums you'll see I have a wide variety of different kinds of albums. The images on Webshots allows me to upload images that people can use the Webshots Desktop application to turn my pictures into their desktop wall paper or screensaver. Plus I have view statistics that I have kind of become addicted to. Webshots does now have a way for me to post images directly in to a message instead of the link, but since I have become a "view whore" I'll continue to post the link unless I mean to show a handful of particular images. :D

    Tim: Who knows.

I was just out to their web site tonight and it was been seriously revamed. In the past their was a great deal of information and photographs of the collection where as today it's all missing frlom the site. I would assume that since the failure of the roof that they are holding things back in hope get more people to come to the museum. This new policy is likely an assoicated method to keep things held back to again draw more people to come to the museum. I don't think this is a good practice by their marketing department but I understand the $$$ to rebuild were huge. Hopfully this will be a short lived method and they will once again be a more openned site; given this is a significant historical site that all Raifans would want to go to anyway.

I know I plan to get back there again someday and take in the whole experience once again.

    Again, great photographs!!!!!!!

    :D :D :D :D :D

Yes, you're right. The website was revamped and they did remove most of the pictures. It is their strategy to get people to come to the museum by not having images, but I think it is a huge mistake.

I would in any event suggest you come by the next time you're in Maryland and see the museum. If you read my blog entry on it you'll know that I think what they did is great.

I am glad you like my pics. Thank you. :D

    Need to get back there...

Looking back at my old/poor photos I can't wait to get back there with better equipment. I have some video of my 1999 trip that I need to get some stills pulled out of becuase I known some of the equipment I saw was either damaged or destroyed when the roof failed.

It is a worthwhile trip to go back. As I pointed out in my blog entry the place is much improved. It would be a good opportunity to check out some other nearby attractions depending on your time and interest.

Im visiting there from England later this year and i have to admit the website just didnt sell it to me, luckily railroaders and railfans i know have told me more than anything. A museum website without a good range of 'collection' pictures seems strange business sense. I had to trawl through google to find what stock was there! Know im gonna love it tho

You will. They've done a great job with it. Depending on how much time you have there's a few other places around you may like to visit.

    sd70mac,

Did they have the train running out to the new restoration building? I was there in June and they have a 45 minute to an hour tour. It is a nice set up the museum has there. Hopefully they can save much of the rolling stock they have outside the fence before the Vandals destroy it. If you haven't seem it, it is worth the time.

I haven't returned since I was there in March. I do know they have stuff running up and down their mile of track though. I am not sure what you mean by outside the fence - everything they have is behind a fence. But it doesn't mean vandals can't break in - and I am sure they do from time to time.

The train ride the museum offers runs out to the CSX mainline and back. On the way, you will pass the new restoration facility, which is fenced. Between the CSX mainline and the restoration facility, they have 20 or so pieces outside that fenced area.I was told that they will be restored if and when money is available.

Cool. I'll have to check it out. But I won't be taking my camera there anymore.
