When the Boston & Maine formed the Gulf Division, they decided to make a special train that carried Yankees from the frozen wilds of Northern New England to the warm sunshine and beaches of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Thus the Gulf Wind was born. Of course it's sold out from November through May with Yankees seeking warmth, and from June through October with Southerners seeking cool. If only that were true. Note the Minute Man drumhead.... I found some very old Con-Cor smooth side cars, added a few Con-Cor fluted side cars, and figured what the heck. Actually the B&M did run a few trains of Budd stainless cars with the same maroon band. The Flying Yankee ran out of Boston to the Gulf...Gulf of Maine, that is.
