AZL ATSF and PRR GP7 Preproduction Samples

AZL is excited to share the first photos of painted GP7 samples. These images have just come in today from Ajin in Korea. The images are of the ATSF GP7 and the PRR GP7. The ATSF does not have a dynamic brake. The PRR does have this feature. The images are of the hand painted samples. Any one getting excited yet?

Yeah they look good, drool- drool.

About stripping, would it be safe to assume that Ajin uses the same paint they did on Model Powers N scale steamers? Because their paint come right off with alcohol.

BTW the title says FP7 instead of GP7. A FP7 is just like a F7, but about 4 feet longer for steam equipment need for passenger service.

    Not all True

Not True, some of Ajin's AZL brass models are nearly un-stripable. It took me about 8 months to strip a NS C44-9. Several stripping agents were used, but only one worked. Very slowly. The one that worked was a gel and had to be re-placed on a weekly basis. The shell soaked for near 8 months. In the end, only about 80% was completely removed. The gel made the remaining 20% brittle where I was able to scrape it off with a hobby knife blade.

Harold Grady claims to have used some stripper from Sears that did the trick in 45 minutes. He can't remember what he used. My luck, but then again, perhaps it was the paint job itself. Harold did not strip a NS C44-9, he stripped an SD45/SD40-2 and a C44-9, but they were not NS. Hmmmmmmmm!

I hope, the GP7 is quickly stripable! For all the sake of the detailed modelers! Myself, the GP7 is not in my modeling scope. Then again, I did see a GP7 painted white with the Coast Guard emblems on it. Awesome scheme!

Interesting, tim. where was this? what did they use it for, do you know? that could make an interesting dock scene or industrial siding -- ANY excuse for painting up something in a different scheme! I'll bet some kind of Coast Guard decal is available for it through micro-scale, from one of their many aircraft sets.

Although the undec MTL GP35 is known to be a bad seller, are undec samples of the GP7/9 scheduled, either at MTL and at AZL?

Dominique, who will need the sooner or the later an undec GP7/9 to power a spur.

AZL normally has the D&RGW in their line. I've the SD45, SD40-2, SD40T and PA1/PB1 in this scheme so I think they will also release it in the GP7.

I know that they are preproduction samples, but hopefully the side windows will be straight and there will be no large gap around the db blister/non-db insert in the released version.

    Otherwise, great looking model.

Well, Rob, all I can say is that this revelation definately makes for some interesting decisions in my life. Like, new roof, or a fleet of Pennsy GP7s? Fuel oil or Pennsy GP7s? Food or Pennsy GP7s? It's going to be a cold, wet and hungry year.

I noticed the gaps too, but since I will be painting a strip of .005 styrene should fix that.

    Dan,

Just remember, the more locos you order, the more cardboard shipping boxes you will receive. Those are great for heating. Each box should supply you with at least 20 seconds of warmth.

Yeah, it looks like I have to paint too, as an NP diesel is probably not in the card for Z Scale. It's only been 30 something years that Z Scale has existed and still no NP diesels?
