http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39540632/ns/weather/ BNSF Freight train derailed due to tornado touch downs. Anyone in Flagstaff seen anything on this?
I live 30 miles south of Flag Hemi, and it was a bad day here! I'd head up there and get pics but the rain and hail have me stayin' inside!! Mike
My granddaughter who lives in Kingman sent me an Adobe file with pix of the 20 car derailment. I have to figure out how to attach it. As far as the train goes, it looks like the cars just rolled over on their sides off the track. Some of the homes did not fair as well. She is flying up here to visit us in Oregon Friday, and probably happy to get out of there! :tb-sad:
Not really surprising to see a stacker tipped over. Those are such a high wind blocking wall.... Boxcab E50
The train was in the worst possible spot at the time. Not many trees, and basically out and exposed. Even down here in Phoenix everyone suffered wind damage.
Fron the views I've seen it looks like the train was headed west, stopped, and the loco cab might have been under the underpass - a smart place to stop for sure. There's no signs of skidding, etc., so it was a flat blow-over. Much less than it could have been, at least on the railroad end. I'll bet that was a wild few minutes for the crew! Test the FRA glazing! Too bad Verne Niner took down his N layout. He had modeled Bellemont pretty well, including the water tank, and give the man a train of well cars and a shop-vac set to blow and it would look just about the same. That's such a wide-open meadow area there, nothing to stop it for sure. It looks like it JUST MISSED the Navajo Army Depot buildings, would have been a lot of flying sheets of roofing metal...
