As much as I like narrow gauge railroads, I can't fit the kind of railroad I would like to build in the space I have available, so I am bidding farewell to the world of On30. I am going to return to the scale I started in a LONG time ago - N. I'm also going to move ahead in time a few decades and run standard gauge 4-axle (steam purists, cover your eyes or ears) diesels. I may still pop in every now and then just to see how things are going, but I'll more likely be found in the N scale forum. Then again, I wasn't much of a prolific poster, so my absence may not be noticed my most readers. At any rate, I've learned a lot just reading here so thanks to all who have written.
Sorry to see you leave. I held on to my N scale, and am rubber gauging. Looking at T-Trak for N, and tinkering with On30. Boxcab E50
Hi Michael, I model in On3 and can understand completely the space needed issue. My basement will never be big enough. Going to N gauge will definitely give you the opportunity to put "big" trains together and lots of operational possibilities to work. Good luck!
There is some great inexpensive HOn3 equipment out in the market now that rivals On3 in a lot of ways. Take a look at what Blackstone Models (a division of Soundtraxx) is putting out. I am replacing all my older engines and rolling stock with their offerings
Thanks for all of the input. I have posted my Bachmann 2-6-0 locos for sale in the Trainstore on this site. I'm having fun exploring other options that are less space consuming.
Have fun. I have both On30 and N scale -- well, my On30 layout is about 70% complete, and my N scale layout is in the benchwork building stage. I like the option of doing both. I use my On30 for that "backwoods, jury rigging" feel. My N scale layout will give me that big time railroading feel. I moved a couple of years ago and have been rebuilding my railroad empires. I enjoy both, so have fun!
