So you guys think the Hertiage units are an afront against humanity. Come on don't let your hate against the UP cloud your judgement against what is considered some of the most distictive looking locomotives ever painted. If not for the UP most or all of the roads that they took over would just be a fading memory. I also will say i model the UP and the BNSF with some SP and conrail thrown in so yes i am a supporter of the UP. I have family who worked for the WP and SP and they are grateful for the jobs that UP saved and not only thier own. But i also like the Rock island unit and if FVM makes it i will buy it. besides why would anybody hate any road name? Just seems to be a waste of time where there is so much more to worry about then some corporate enity that took over some of your favorite railroads. Life is too short to hate anything. Dave
I don't hate UP, I have, or am getting all the heritage units, my favorite railroad is the Santa Fe, if anything I should hate BNSF. Just saying that Iowa Interstate can't be getting any financial benefit because apart from railfans, who would know it's their unit, even if they saw the small reporting marks how much of the general public would know what the letters IAIS meant, or even that they indicated the units owner. Whereas the UP units are clearly UP units. Would the UP units have looked any less distinctive if they had used real paint schemes from the various predecessor roads like Iowa Interstate has done. I think the C&NW unit is the best looking one because it looks like it could have actually existed.
Just to answer an earlier question, it was painted in KC. Brought up on the DM&E ( former ICE) and look at it this way folks. It ran on Rock Island Rails on its way home. I just missed bringing it home by one trip. Oh well hopefully Mr Posner will do another one.
I did not like UP untill I read about its history. I found out that UP is really fascinating! They are also proud on their history, have an own museum, and their website gives a lot of information about their history and predecessors. They brought a salute to those fallen flags and I think that is great. It will generate publicity, but what's wrong with that? ConnDOT painted its engines in New Haven colors long before anyone made heritage schemes. UP redesigned the old schemes and painted some engines with those schemes. And Iowa Interstate paints an engine in original Rock Island colors. Now it is waiting for CSX to repaint their engines in WM, B&O, C&O, NYC, or whatever fallen flag they have absorbed or inherited through mergers and aqcuisitions. And yes, I would like to have the RI engine!
The BNSF trucks looked a little flat but these look very good. Printing on these loco's is outstanding.
Does the Ferrocarrll Mexicano units ever show up in the states say with a UP consist. I really don't need another reason to buy another one but it looks so good. Dave
Received back my other 2 BNSF gevos i sent back to Matt, and they run very nice, smooth and fairly quiet which i expect will quiet down even more as they are broke in. Great customer service. Thanks Matt Dave
Don't know about on UP but I have seen several on the BNSF in California and Texas. Here's a pair leading a train near Tower 55 in Ft Worth TX last year.
