I gave these a much higher bank then the SP Main, but thats the way the ATSF had them here.

With the PA1 test locomotive. Can;'t wait to see a 199 with F45's/SD45-2/etc leaning into this curve. :)

I feel like a rail baron, looking to the other side of the garage across the benchwork! ;):)

Ugh. That makes me sad. Last time I was out there, it was still three tracks wide.

Jerry, I'm headed back to the photo archives (my Dad's) this Friday evening. I'll see what I can dig up from our trips, as they'd be right around the late 80's early nineties. If nothing else, it'll be fun to compare.

Yea, it is kinda depressing seeing it with only a main going through here. :( Look forward to seeing your pictures. :)

Wow Jerry - you're making some serious progress! If you're already entering Franklin Canyon and the tunnel, Muir trestle can't be too far away :)!!

I actually have been doing alot, but it's all in the same area. :) I fine tuned the Main and the switches till the PA1 barely even bounces going through them. There is some, but it's due to the ME switch. The frog is not as nice as Russells switch, but thats OK. I have some pictures of the area when the track really looked bad here due to the constant slides. So, a little high low is really just being prototypical. ;)

Awwwww...comon Jerry! You mean to say the track in real life isn't perfectly straight nor perfectly level? !! I am absolutely aghast !! LOL. My track runs fine...its a bit 'bumpy' here and there...and got a bit of a 'side-to-side' to it occasionally. When people ask...I tell em to go check some real rail...or go for a train ride...then come back and complain !!

    Jerry,

The picture of the track you shared. That track reminds me of the SP branch line into Hollister, Ca.. I used to wonder how the trains made it into town and back out safely. For a while many of our California Main Lines looked just like that.

If you think budgets are tight now you have no idea where we've been...in the past.

Jerry your work looks more like today's ribbon rail. Looking good

Tonight Kimberly and I did some wood cutting. :) Got a few more pieces eyeballed in place. Its amazing how fast you can run out of real estate between the paper drawing and the real thing. I think I will be OK with some selective compression, but it is pretty clear Muir Bridge is not going to be as big as I thought or hoped it would be. I might be able to come up with something as I build and plan more, but I made a deal with myself that the ATSF Line would not go below 22"R curves because of the 89' Piggyback flats that will dominate this line. This is going to be the most curvy part of the run too. I still think it will work out OK. :)

Tonight I was surfing the net, and was looking at the Scenery Express site. They have Static Grass applicators, with a nozzle attachment on sale for about $80 less then regular price! So, I ordered one. :) I also got some tunnle portals and walls and 2mm spring and summer grass ordered. Can't wait to try it out!
Might even have to go back and add some to the SP at Pinole.
