Ken, that was an ebay win...... http://www.ebay.com/itm/330680385437?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
WHERE did you find that? That is awesome! I used to love that show, still catch it once in a while. Sweet progress.
I gotta get me one of those for my layout. There's gotta be so way I can have it prepped to jump the crossing at Gross Dam Rd....
I got that at a train show Jim, along with a couple other cars from the show. Three total for $10.....couldnt pass it up!
I am so mad right now I cant even think straight......I have had rodent problems on the layout before, and last weekend it looked like an owl and squarrel had a wrestle-mania on the layout. Destroyed a large section of trees and owl crap on the ocean section and down the facia. Brass locomotive on the concrete floor ruined, and several trains knocked over. I cleaned most of it off, and started fixing the trees. Sealed everywhere I could find around the roof. Tonight I go down there, and a bird had got in and before getting 'stuck' on one of the many sticky traps I put around the layout, managed to damage the layout more. So as much as I hate saying this......I am suspending building on this layout. I cannot afford to have it damaged like this from pests that crawl and fly. Until I can get a better building or room, This project is over. I would take pictures of the damage, but 1) it would make most of you as mad as it has made me, and 2) I dont want to be reminded of the damage later by seeing it again. So much work ruined. I may salvage what I can and give it to the N Scale club to use on the N Scale club layout. This really just makes me sick........
Damn Jerry...this suxs !! There has to be a way to save her...there just has to be :tb-sad: I have been sitting here trying to figure what to say. Then I went back to post one page one...all I can say is...THIS SUXS !!! :tb-sad:
Sitting here thinking...how can we help Jerry? What advise can we give him? I used to be in charge of vector control for a local hospital you'd think I could come up with something. Ok, here we go. I can't guarantee this will work. There is a vector control unit that emits a frequency our ear's don't hear. It is said it will drive off the mice, rats and birds. We never did try it as we closed up every opening to the hospital with screen backed up with chicken wire. One thing we did to drive off pigeons...we installed models or statutes of owls where the pigeons like to roost. It worked until they learned they weren't a threat. Oh, well back to square one. You may want to consider purchasing a bird net to cover the layout. This won't stop them from roosting above the layout and dropping poop on it. How about, unless it goes floor to ceiling...if you get my drift? If you quit, I don't know what I'm going to do to get my Jerry fix, once a week. Grin!
Ugh. First, my utmost condolences -- I would be shattered if that happened to my pike. Second, take Russell's advice and step away for a few days. Third, think about ways this could be a blessing in disguise. Frankly, I'm amazed you put up with this space for as long as you have, given the number of times you seem to have curtailed work due to extreme heat or cold. Does it make any sense to carve out a piece of the garage and seal it well from wildlife and install some climate control? I did this in my new space in Vancouver: I insulated my garage and added heating (don't need AC in BC!) and I'm *so* glad I did. You might end up with less layout space, but it would be quality space that you *want* to spend time in. And there must be some salvageable elements you can keep, no? Stiff upper lip. You may have lost a battle, but you'll win the war. -Gary
Yikes !!! JD, I'm so sorry to hear about the damage. I echo what Russell said and want to add.... Don't trow da baby out wit da bath wata ! Have you ever considered building a room around the layout within the garage?:hammer: could be cheaper than moving and you can have your layout and the garage. A bunch of tuba4s, a nice insulated door, some sheet rock and a few lights, oh and some insulation, and heat and AC, and a nice place to set your cool beverage down, and let the varmints poop all over the out side, because the ATSF Line will be snug as a bug in a rug, oh yah and some nice deep pile carpet so when you drop a coupler you can just fogettaboutit. I know a carpenter that can help..... It would be a shame to open up Trainboard and not see ATSF Line Started near the top, besides, only 3,945,956,000 more pages to go before you set a new record for pages viewed:w20z6q:
How the heck is this intruder getting in? :tb-mad: There are limits to everything, including putting up with such nonsense. Allowing this to shut down your modeling is just not right.
< S N A P > JERRY!!!... I just went out to my van to get my cellphone I left out there. The porch light came on automatically < S N A P > Get one of these... http://www.amazon.com/Zenith-SL-540...N5E4/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1334299498&sr=8-8 Install it in the garage. Put in 2 flood lights...set the sensitivity...B A M !! When something moves (critter wise) in the garage late at night...the flood lights come on and will probably give the little &^%*%$%(^%*)^ 's a heart attack !!!! Just sayin Just my 2 cents :tb-cool:
