    Franklin Canyon Saved from Development

Here's an article from today's (July 28) San Francisco Chronicle concerning the saving of Franklin Canyon from development. Some interesting history in the article, such as the large ranch in the canyon has been owned by the same family since the 1850s!

When I lived in Castro Valley we had a view to the east of similar hills and woodlands. Sadly, the view is now blocked by McMansions.

Great to see the canyon preserved!

I'm really glad to read this! There are enough houses in CA without people in them,so to ruin the Canyon with more houses would be a real shame.

Since I'm on this thread, I should update....... :)
It has been so hot in there, aside from checking track and cleaning cobb webbs, nothing new yet. :(

I think it would be impossible to get anything done with the heat the way it has been...there are times my air conditioned basement seems too warm!

Jerry, I think it's time to seriously look into some AC. I'm afraid all your work is going to get damaged from these unbelievable temperature changes.

Actually....it's more because I want to see more updates. :tb-tongue:

Jerry I feel for you. I too have had layouts in the garage here in Texas. About the only time you can work on the layout is during the spring or fall. The temps this week are expected to be above 100 degrees ALL week. Best thing you can do is have a cold drink and read a rr mag or something until September LOL.

Time for some armchair railroading. Temp here in TN is 100+ with a heat index of 115.

I wouldn't blame you for taking a break till September Jerry! I can't imagine trying to build a railroad inside a metal bldg. in Alabama in August.

As a side note Jerry, did you pick up any of Athearn's Superfleet FP-45's?

I think alot of people are feeling the heat. Even tried doing some work in the evenings, but the heat lingers on for awhile in there. :( Have done some work on the clubs layout, but the guys bring over like 8 fans while we are working! LOL

We do the same in the HO club I'm at. Even in a basement with multiple fans and a new dehumidifier, it's been horrendously warm the past couple of weeks.

It's better than the alternative, but it's still too warm for my blood.

Hello everyone, I just wanted to thank you for the info on atsf caboose 999046 posted two years ago. That was the caboose my Grandpa used when he worked for the atsf. Anyway, I appreciate the knowledge :)
