I used Woodland Scenics black to paint, let it dry couple weeks and it gave me a very good and nature look, I don't have to do any weathering, I like the way it looks, old,use lines cracking. It is time to ask government some funding to fix these highway... Hope this help. Hien.
Sorry but I can't resist...... Is this another bridge to nowhere? All of these ideas look pretty good, more inspiration!
Awesome thread, I'm on page 63 right now. Have to go for a while, but will definitely be back to finish. You've sold me on WS water effects, the bay looks amazing! Oh yeah, and smaller scorpions are the deadlier ones, yours looks fairly large.
That looks beautiful. How did prepare the roadbed underneath? And what did you use to attach the paper?
Glad your enjoying it! Its been alot of fun. I was expecting the worst with the scorpions, but that...so far...has been the only one.
I gave the paper road a generous coating of Dullcote to seal it, then used spray-mount adhesive to attach the paper to some 0.010" styrene sheet. (Make sure you use the "permanent" spray-mount, not the "repositionable" sort, or you'll find yourself with a problem a few years down the road. I speak from experience here.) I then added the curbs and sidewalks on top, made sure everything was cut to shape, and glued the whole assembly to the top of my module with Weldbond white glue and a lot of weights: I attached some 0.030" strip under the middle of the road (between the styrene base and the module, not between the paper and the styrene) before I glued it down, to provide some "crown" for drainage. The effect isn't obvious in the final product: ...but I think if it the crown weren't there, the road would actually appear concave. And in any case, at least I know the road is properly contoured.
100 more pages to go! Glad to hear your back surgery was finally taken care of. Also that static grassmaster thing is amazing. edit: Finished! Can't wait for more.
Finally got around to getting the new passenger train on the layout.....and WOW! What a beautiful model. Kato has done it again.
