...for Heribert Baier in Germany. This paint scheme was used prior to the yellow-blue "Warbonnet" design Following detailing: -full BLMA program (lift rings, cut lever, fans, grab irons, mirrors, sunshades, windscreen wipers, MU-hoses) -MU-boxes, -Frame mounted coupler -"bubble" behind the cab -Beacon -Bell (under sideframe) -modified side frames (Phase II unit) -detailed tank -custom decals, paint and weathering as per prototype photo
VERY nicely done, gerd. it's when a classic unit is done well that people in other scales see the quality of Z. beautiful. dave f.
Hi Rob, no, the beacon is a piece of fibre optic put in a plastic tube and mounted on 4 wires sticking out of the roof...
Gerd, nice use of fibre optic! I used a piece of fibre optic for my FRED on my CSX boxcar and that made the modification a lot easier than trying to mount a nano LED. Any chance of getting more detailed pics of the beacon? Joe
Cool ! I did the same on my first DCC job, the UP GP's. I mounted a thin PC board in the cab roof and placed 2 LED's for the front lights, one on each side of the board with a .020 fiber on each into the front head lights. I wanted seperate lights. For the beacon, I used 0.040", rounded off and placed a large area flat LED under it (so it was not alignment critical).
Just to make things clear, it's just a piece of fibre optic in that loco, just a dummy, not illuminted or conacted to the cab and with some fancy electronics. It just sparkles a bit in the sunlight
