Morning All, The summer of 1995 was was very typical until I met the young man who lived above me. He worked for Santa Fe and had just taken a transfer from Barstow to get away from the summer heat. We were living in Pittsburg, Ca and he worked as a holiser in Richmond. He found out I was a fan and invited me to the yards to spend some time with him and to talk to the trainmaster about hiring on. That day I had my first and only ride in the cab of the ATSF 649. I think it was a dash-8. Anyway the reason for this story is to find the 649. I have seen so many of you with great pictures of the warbonnet units that are still in service, but no pictures of the 649. If any one see's this unit and has a camera please take a picture and post it. Lots of great menories. Thanks Shannon WP LIVES (no matter what the UP says)
Shannon Sorry dont have a shot of that one but I think its a C44-9W and according to the loco review its still in service. I wonder if its still in Super Fleet paint? Steve
Well, This site http://www.trainpix.com/bnsf/GEORIG/C44-9W/INDEX.HTM doesn't have it, but it does say it's a Dash 9.
Thanks guys, I was not sure where the numbers broke the Dash-8 and Dash-9s. My rosters are packed away for our move so thanks for your help. Shannon WP LIVES (no matter what the UP says)
Thanks for posting my shot Russell. I stopped by to scan topics and saw 649; hey that sounds familiar, but you beat me to it, good job. Hope it brings back a bunch of good memories Shannon!
