Several week ago a TB member and I posted on a forum about free wheels from Atlas. We didn't get any response. PLEASE, HOW DO I GET THE FREE WHEELS FROM ATLAS. I checked their website and found nothing about it.

A coupla months ago, Atlas offered free packages for their low-profile wheelsets to be used to raplace M-T wheelsets. This was to get around the problem of the deep-flange M-T wheels that couldn't run well on Atlas code 55 track (it's an NMRA spec thing, not an Atlas problem). I was lucky to get mine when I did, because the demand was so great they ran out.

I can tell you that they work just fine, even though I'm still using regular Atlas track. I got them mostly for appearance as well as performance, but should I ever use code 55, I'll have the cars ready to use.

so, for those of us who use code 55 and need wheels, what should we buy? I got like 200 cars that will need re-wheeling :(

my other thought was to dremmel a small rut on the inside of my track - which might cause some track porblems....

I'm in the process of replacing all my pizza cutters with the Atlas wheels.

The Pizza cutters have never caused a problem on the current Oakville Sub (ME code 55 weathered, Peco Code 55 switches), but I'm looking to the future and hope to have all cars converted by the time I move to a new basement and begin to build anew. I've now gone through five of the large packs and have hardly made a dent. I'm doing it for long-term compatibility.

For those of you who are going to swap out your old MT wheels for new lo pro's, take my advice and try the brown MT low profile wheels. Personally, I think they look MUCH more realistic then Atlas's despite being a bit shiney (the shine is really only noticable when they first come out of the package). The Atlas wheels work fine, but the MT wheels just look more realistic, both design wise and color wise to me.

I'm with you Craig. After trying them, I intend to convert all my stock to brown low-pro's. I don't need to do so as I use Peco code 55 track, but they look so much better than the cookie cutters [IMG]
