Has anyone on here figured out a better way to secure the drive shaft to the motor that doesn’t rely on these tiny fragile pieces of plastic. Could a guy fill the inside of the flywheel
With a fast dry epoxy to secure it in place?

The best adhesive I have found for securing the black universal joint coupling to the shaft is E6000. It looks like the one in your photo is cracked so it will need to be replaced if it is.

I second E6000. This stuff is amazing. Works with cracked universals as well. (I just fixed a number of Atlas units that were ailing from this exact issue.)

I've never heard of E6000 until now, but as a second option, I've been having pretty good luck with Gorilla Super Glue. Now I have to admit, I've been finding the coupling on the end of the worm gear shaft is loose, not the one inside the flywheel.

So walk me through this… are you removing the u joint then using E6000 to simply fix the crack and then re fitting it on the drive shaft or putting E6000 right into the flywheel cavity over the cracked universal joint and securing it that way?

Remove the universal from the flywheel -- add a drop of E6000 to the shaft (I use a T-pin)- put the universal back on. Let sit for about 24 hours (Yeah - E6000 takes a bit to cure). Reassemble the locomotive. That's about it.
